In recognition of the innovative and creative public spaces across our cities, towns and communities, the International Cities, Town Centres and Communities (ICTC) Society are pleased to host Placemaking Week Australia in Townsville from the 23 – 27 October 2019.
Placemaking Week Australia is about showcasing great public spaces, building conversations, highlighting community driven placemaking and best practice placemaking initiatives.
Placemaking is essential in transforming spaces in our cities and towns to encourage community engagement and interactions, while fostering healthier, socially and economically sustainable places.
The ICTC Society is pleased to work in conjunction with Townsville City Council, as the host city, to hold a number of Placemaking Week activities. As the largest city in Northern Australia, Townsville is on the cusp of transformation, from the North Queensland Stadium and Waterfront Priority Development Area, to creating economic stimulus through innovative placemaking projects and developments.

Placemaking Week Australia is being held in conjunction with the 19th ICTC Conference being held in Townsville, North Queensland from the 23 – 25 October 2019. This is an opportunity for industry experts to come together to discuss, interact and showcase best practice, learn from one another and experience first-hand the challenges and opportunities.

Seen a great initiative of forward thinking placemaking, community-driven public spaces or city activations? Capture the project and post it on social media with the hashtag #placemakingaus. Ensure you caption the photo with the location and how it best showcases innovative placemaking. All photos with the hashtag #placemakingaus go in the draw to win a registration to attend ICTC Conference 2020 (valued at $1,200) and have their photo featured on the ICTC Society website and at the 2019 Conference. Photo entries close Friday 25 October at 10:00am, with the winner announced at the ICTC Conference close.
Placemaking Week Australia is about sharing the successes within our cities and towns.
